THE Dewan Rakyat will today discuss the continuing drop in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and measures to reduce non-revenue water (NRW).

Onn Abu Bakar (Batu Pahat-PH) will seek an explanation from the economy minister on why the CPI has dropped to the lowest level of 2%, and if goods and services affect the figure.

In the same session, Dr Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail (Kubang Pasu-PN) will ask the natural resources, environment and climate change minister on the government’s measures to reduce NRW for states with higher percentages than the national average (37.2%), such as Kedah.

There will be a question from Khairil Nizam Khirudin (Jerantut-PN) to the works minister on the government’s short- and long-term plans to mitigate congestion on highways such as at the Bentong toll and Gombak toll plazas.

Khairil also wants to know if the government will agree to install solar lights on highways without street lights.

In the list is also a question from Dr Ahmad Fakhruddin Fakhrurazi (Kuala Kedah-PN) to the agriculture and food security minister, on the action plan to increase protein sources based on marine life, as well as a sustainable strategy to increase the income of inland fishermen.

The debate on Budget 2024 will resume afterwards. It will be debated at the policy level for eight days, before a four-day session for replies from ministers begins October 30.

MPs will participate in the debate on the bill at the committee level for 12 days, from November 6.

The current Dewan Rakyat sits for 32 days until November 30. – Bernama, October 25, 2023.
