2 more flood relief centres open in Perak

TWO more flood relief centres were opened in Perak due to heavy rain in Hilir Perak and Kerian to accommodate 182 victims from 59 families as at 6pm today.

The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat in a statement said the two centres were the Teluk Intan Municipal Council hall in Hilir Perak and SK Changkat Lobak, Kerian, which were opened at 6pm and 5.30pm, respectively.

The secretariat said victims were still being evacuated.

The number of flood victims at the Padang Tembak Multipurpose Hall centre, which was opened yesterday, rose this evening compared with 50 people from 16 families in the morning.

“The affected areas include Lorong Kedah, the lane behind the Changkat Jong Rural Clinic, Batu 9, Simpang 3, Batu 10, Batu 7 and Lorong Sidang Osman, all in the Hilir Perak district,” it said.

The secretariat said Sungai Bidor was still at danger level with a reading of 4.1m compared with 4.13m this morning. Rain was expected tonight in both districts.

The secretariat said Jalan Kubu Gajah Ijok-Sumpitan in Selama was closed due to a landslide, with Jalan Pintasan Kampung Sumpitan-Kampung Masjid named an alternative route. – Bernama, October 24, 2023.
