THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is investigating Aman Palestin’s collection and distribution of funds.

MACC chief Azam Baki said investigators are in the midst of obtaining documents from the organisation and the banks for an audit.

He said the probe was opened last week following media reports of irregularities.

“We will be investigating how the donations are collected and how the funds are spent.

“We have received cooperation from Aman Palestin. At this stage, we are still in the forensic investigation phase and collecting documents, studying the audits and checking for irregularities.

“During the forensic investigation process, no one will be called up to have their statements recorded,” Azam told reporters after officiating the International Anti-Bribery Anti Corruption Summit, this morning.

Last week, it was reported thar MACC launched an investigation into Aman Palestin in connection with its fundraising activities for the Palestinians.

Quoting sources, the report said many were unhappy with the organisation’s management of contributions.

Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin had in a August 24 letter instructed the state Islamic Religious Affairs Department not to allow the organisation to collect funds on religious premises.

Asri had called for more transparency in the way Aman Palestin collected and disbursed public donations.

Azam today said MACC would follow the money trail to check whether the donations were being channelled to Palestinians.

He said the case is a matter of public interest. – October 24, 2023.
