FIRE has destroyed 5.26ha of the 10.23ha Merlimau Valley Oil Palm Plantation since yesterday.
Malacca Fire and Rescue Department said in a statement today as at 10.30am, it has put out 90% of the areas that caught fire.
It said the department received a call at 4.03pm yesterday before sending teams from the Merlimau and Jasin stations to the location.
“Two fire engines with 12 firemen from the two stations arrived at the incident scene about nine minutes later to put out the fire in the oil palm plantation.
“As of this morning, firefighting operations are still continuing and 90% of the burned areas have been successfully extinguished,” the statement said.
The statement said the cause of the fire and the value of losses are yet to be determined. – Bernama, October 23, 2023.
