POLICE are in the midst of freezing 15 bank accounts allegedly owned by MYAirline co-founder Goh Hwan Hua.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said the funds in the accounts, totaling nearly RM5 million, are believed to be the proceeds of money laundering activities.

He told Utusan Malaysia these are both private and company accounts.

“Freezing the bank accounts is a multistep process and will require some time,” he was quoted as saying.

Police on Tuesday night arrested Goh who is identified as MYAirline co-founder and majority shareholder. He reportedly is also the owner of private firms Zillion Wealth and Trillion Cove Holdings, which held stakes of 88% and 10%, respectively, in the airline.

Goh and two family members were remanded for four days to assist in investigations under the Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

The remand on Goh was extended for two days, until tomorrow, while his 55-year-old wife and 26-year-old son have been released.

Ramli said the probe is ongoing and the CCID has identified several more individuals who can testify to help facilitate investigations into the case.

“It would be better if they come forward to cooperate to avoid any difficulties,” he said.

Yesterday, Utusan Malaysia reported that police were working on identifying assets belonging to the three suspects.

Police were also probing into the financial backgrounds of the airline co-founder and its other shareholders.

An investigation has been launched to identify how the airline was established. – October 22, 2023.
