GABUNGAN Parti Sarawak chief whip Fadillah Yusof said as the bloc was the Jepak electorate’s preferred choice, it should win unopposed in the November 4 by-election.
But Fadillah, who is also deputy prime minister, said the party would still win with a contest.
“If there are hopefuls, maybe they should drop the idea (of contesting). Let us win unopposed. It would be a waste of money. Keep the money, and save your energy. Wait for a much bigger election,” he told reporters after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Malaysian Palm Oil Certification Council and Halal Development Corporation in Putrajaya today.
Yesterday, GPS chairman Abang Johari Openg announced former Sarawak National Anti-Drug Agency director Iskandar Turkee as the bloc’s candidate for the Jepak polls, which was called following the death of incumbent Talib Zulpilip on September 15.
The Election Commission has set nomination day for October 21, with early voting on October 31.
Fadillah said Iskandar, 54, was highly experienced in public service and would do his best for the people in Jepak, which was a GPS stronghold. – Bernama, October 19, 2023.
