THE Defence Ministry is fine-tuning various aspects in the move to revive the National Service Training Programme, including the number of army veterans, Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said.

He said the ministry was identifying army veterans suitable for the programme.

“Some of the veterans are trainers and we will provide training to other veterans (who are not trainers) so they can become part of the programme,” he told reporters during a visit to the construction site of the Al-Bayan Academy Complex in Kampung Pegoh, Alor Gajah, today.

Adly said the ministry always considered the welfare of army veterans, with those eligible offered new jobs after their retirement.

Yesterday, the media reported Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Maslan, who is also a National Veterans Council member, suggested the National Service programme should involve army veterans. – Bernama, October 15, 2023.
