PRIME Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the civil servant salary and allowance scheme would be revised by the end of next year.

In the interim, the finance minister said all civil servants, including contract appointees, would receive RM2,000 each.

“Those of Grade 56 and below, including contract appointees, are eligible to receive the incentive.

“RM1,000 will also be given to personnel in the public sector, including police, armed forces, firefighters and rescue workers, as well as all uniformed members,” he told the Dewan Rakyat while tabling Budget 2024.

The salary and allowance scheme for civil servants was last revised in 2012.

Anwar also announced a RM1,000 incentive for all government pensioners.

“This includes pensioned veterans as well as non-pensioned veterans. The payment will be made at the end of February 2024 to ease their burden in paying for their children’s school preparations as well as preparation for the months of Ramadan and Shawal,” he said.

In August, Anwar said the government was trying to raise civil servants’ salaries.

He said that was a temporary measure until a comprehensive study on the salary and retirement scheme for civil servants was completed next year.

On July 13, the prime minister said there was a proposal to improve the civil service salary scheme in stages based on the country’s economic capabilities, and that the matter would be discussed in a meeting with Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Zuki Ali and Public Service Department director-general Zulkapli Mohamed. – October 13, 2023.
