Chicken, egg subsidies to end, says PM

PRIME Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced the temporary ceiling prices for chickens and eggs would be lifted.

In unveiling Budget 2024, Anwar said the prices of eggs and chicken have stabilised, adding that current retail prices are far below ceiling prices.

Anwar, who is finance minister, said the government would rationalise diesel subsidies in phases, but exemptions will be given to selected consumers such as logistics companies.

He said the government would continue to streamline electricity subsidies.

He said Putrajaya would bear RM55 million for electricity subsidies of up to RM40 a month for the hardcore poor. – October 13, 2023.
