THE Transport Ministry (MOT) was monitoring complaints by passengers affected by the suspension of MYAirline flights, minister Anthony Loke said.

In a statement, he said his ministry would ensure consumer rights were protected.

“Based on the information I received, 125,000 passengers were affected following this suspension.

“However, MYAirline has assured the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) it will keep its promise to reimburse every one of its customers,” Loke said.

He said Mavcom would also be monitoring the situation.

“The MOT, via Mavcom, will prioritise consumers, and MYAirline has assured it will address every complaint and will start refunding passengers” he said.

Earlier, MYAirline issued a statement saying it made the “extremely painful decision” to suspend operations due to financial pressures, pending shareholder restructuring and the airline’s recapitalisation.

In an earlier statement, Mavcom told MYAirline to issue refunds to customers affected by the suspension.

Macvom said MYAirline was liable to refund consumers who purchased tickets from the airline but were unable to travel. – October 12, 2023.
