SARAWAK Premier Abang Johari Openg today dismissed news reports that the state, via his son Abang Abdillah Izzarim, would take over financially strapped low-cost airline MYAirline, which suspended operations today.

Abang Johari said the state is only interested in the takeover of MasWings. He was speaking after the launch of Taiyo Yuden Sarawak Sdn Bhd’s factory buildings in the Sama Jaya free industrial zone in Kuching.

He said speculation about a MYAirline takeover started when his son and his friends attended a “dialogue” in Kuala Lumpur.

It was reported that the premier’s 45 year-old son, who is a director at Cempaka Helicopter Corp Sdn Bhd, had attended a meeting with MYAirline representatives on October 9.

It was also reported that the majority shares in MYAirline, which began its maiden flight last December to Kuching International Airport, owned by entrepreneur Goh Hwan Hua would most likely be sold to Abang Abdillah.

MYAirline announced early this morning it had suspended operations until further notice. – October 12, 2023.
