THAI Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin will pay a working visit to Malaysia today and tomorrow, marking his inaugural visit to the country after being sworn in on September 5.
Srettha is scheduled to have an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at the Istana Negara today, according to a Wisma Putra statement.
Srettha is also scheduled to meet his counterpart Anwar Ibrahim today, where both leaders will review the progress of bilateral relations, especially cooperation in trade, investment and border security, as well as exploring new areas of cooperation such as cyber security, green and digital economy.
“Both leaders are also expected to exchange views on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.
“Wisma Putra is confident that this working visit will further strengthen the already established good relations between the two countries which are also close neighbours and partners in Asean,” the statement added.
In 2022, Thailand was Malaysia’s seventh largest trading partner globally and the third largest among the Asean member states, with total trade amounting to RM122.03 billion (US$27.75 billion), an increase of 17.9% compared to RM97.55 billion (US$23.54 billion) in 2021. – Bernama, October 11, 2023.
