THE unity government’s victory in the Pelangai by-election yesterday was a continuation of the excellence shown in the recent Pulai parliamentary and the Simpang Jeram polls, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said.
He said it was the result of the cooperation of friends in the government who succeeded in breaking down the politics of slander and racism.
“It also inspires the unity government to continue promoting the national development agenda for the wellbeing of the people based on the Madani economic framework,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Anwar congratulated Barisan Nasional candidate Amizar Abu Adam, who won the seat with a 2,949-vote majority.
He also thanked the voters who continued to put their trust in the unity government and expressed his appreciation to the pact’s election machinery.
Amizar polled 7,324 votes to beat Perikatan Nasional’s Kasim Samat, who garnered 4,375 votes, and Independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasni, who received only 47 votes and lost his deposit. – Bernama, October 8, 2023.
