PAHANG Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said Barisan Nasional’s (BN) 15 Pahang assemblymen have expressed their strong support for the state government led by him.

Wan Rosdy, who is also Pahang BN chairman, said the matter was relayed to him by the assemblymen yesterday.

“They all assured me they will continue to stand firm with the government today and expressed their strong support for my leadership,” he told reporters when met after “Sembang Santai Veteran” in Bentong today.

He said this in response to a statement issued by Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin during a speech in Felda Chemomoi yesterday, claiming there was a possibility BN assemblymen would join PN if the latter wins the Pelangai by-election.

The Pahang government comprised 16 BN assemblymen (including Wan Rosdy), eight Pakatan Harapan (PH) assemblymen, and 17 PN assemblymen.

Pahang has yet to implement the anti-party hopping law since it came into force at the federal level on October 5 last year.

Wan Rosdy called Muhyddin’s allegation slander aimed at confusing voters ahead of the by-election.

“This is an unhealthy culture… As politicians, we should talk about hope and well-being to the people, not false sentiments to confuse the people and make up false stories,” he said.

The Pelangai by-election was called after the death of its incumbent Johari Harun from BN, who was killed in a plane crash in Bandar Elmina, Selangor, on August 17.

The by-election on Saturday would see a three-way battle between BN’s Amizar Abu Adam, PN’s Kasim Samat and Independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasni. – Bernama, October 4, 2023.
