THE Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) has proposed an incentive for electric vehicle (EV) purchases by B40 members, specifically for e-motorcycles, to be introduced in Budget 2024.
Miti deputy secretary-general (industry) Hanafi Sakri said the proposal has been submitted to the Finance Ministry (MOF).
“We hope to receive a positive response. Miti hopes the MOF will support the development of the EV industry,” he told reporters after delivering his keynote address at the International Electric Mobility Showcase 2023 in Kuala Lumpur today.
He said the government introduced many incentives in 2022 and 2023 to develop the EV industry.
Hanafi said the market for two-wheeled EVs in Malaysia was still low at less than 1% capacity, and hoped the proposed incentive will boost EV adoption in Malaysia.
Malaysia aimed to have 10,000 EV charging stations nationwide by 2025, comprising 1,000 direct current chargers and 9,000 alternating current chargers. – Bernama, October 4, 2023.
