A SRI Lankan man who was arrested on suspicion of murder earlier this week died in custody last night.

Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department director Azri Ahmad said the detainee’s death was confirmed by a medical officer from Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

He said the 43-year-old man complained of chest pains at about 11pm yesterday.

“The hospital was immediately contacted,” Azri said in a statement today.

“An assistant medical officer from HKL arrived to provide treatment, but later confirmed the man’s death.”

Azri said HKL would conduct a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.

He also said Bukit Aman’s death-in-custody investigation unit would probe into the man’s death.

On Monday, police said they have detained two Sri Lankans – believed to be a couple – over the murder of three Sri Lankan men in Kuala Lumpur.

Two other suspects are on the run but police believe they are still in the country.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Allaudeen Abdul Majid was reported as saying that a manhunt is ongoing.

Allaudeen said they have not ascertained the motive for the triple murder as the main suspects are still at large. – October 1, 2023.
