THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has found new evidence in its investigation into former education minister Radzi Jidin’s alleged RM80 million book project scandal.
MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said he was informed of this by his officers following the arrest of Radzi’s political secretary a week ago.
“I have been informed by the investigating officers that a lot of new evidence has been collected. We will continue with the investigation,” he said.
“Give us some time (to complete the investigation),” he told reporters at a MACC event held at Kajang prison today.
Asked if MACC would be calling the Bersatu vice-president any time soon, Azam said he would leave that to his men.
Last week, MACC arrested two individuals, including the former political secretary to Radzi, on suspicion of soliciting and receiving bribes for an RM80 million project.
The second suspect is the owner of a company in his late 50s.
Both were alleged to have conspired with the former minister to solicit and receive a bribe in return for the approval of a book project through direct negotiations.
Last Saturday, Radzi released a statement denying that he had approved the project via direct negotiations and alleged that the arrests by MACC were ordered by the authorities following his outburst in Dewan Rakyat last week. – September 30, 2023.
