PRIME Minister Anwar Ibrahim said there was no urgent need to reshuffle his cabinet as there was only one vacancy to fill.

However, he also did not rule out the possibility of discussing any proposed cabinet reshuffle in his meeting with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

“I have a weekly meeting with the king, discussion on that (cabinet reshuffle) maybe. (But) it is not urgent because only one post is vacant,” he told reporters after attending the Lembaga Tabung Haji 60th anniversary celebration today.

The vacant position that needs filling is domestic trade and cost of living minister, which was previously held by the late Salahuddin Ayub who had died on July 23.

Anwar also said there was a concern regarding the increase in the price of goods, which could affect people’s spending.

“We do have a problem (in the price of goods) and I have to admit this.

“Several countries are facing great social unrest due to the restriction of rice and the increase in export taxes – onions, for example.

“All these have an economic impact and we are trying to deal with it,” he added.

He said he has asked acting Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Armizan Mohd Ali, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Deputy Minister Fuziah Salleh and the National Cost of Living Action Council chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to look into the matter. – September 29, 2023.
