National Sports Council head calls it quits

AHMAD Shapawi Ismail ended his 35-year run with the National Sports Council (NSC) today, the agency said.

The NSC in a Facebook post expressed its gratitude for Shapawi’s guidance since he joined the agency in 1988.

“Happy retirement. May you always be happy with your beloved family,” said the message.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh congratulated Shapawi on his retirement, describing him as a leader with great knowledge.

“Thank you, Datuk Ahmad Shapawi, for sharing a lot of experience with (the Youth and Sports Ministry). Today, NSC lost its fountain of knowledge and leadership…

“Happy birthday, Datuk Shapawi, and may you enjoy plenty of quality time with Datin, your children and grandkids! I shared my personal thoughts about his retirement to the top leadership of the ministry yesterday. Lots of tears. He will be dearly missed,” Yeoh said in a Facebook post.

Shapawi became NSC director-general in 2014, replacing Zolkples Embong. – Bernama, September 28, 2023.
