MOHD Qabil Ambak Mahamad Fathil made history today by clinching Malaysia’s first-ever equestrian gold in the Asian Games after he won the individual dressage event in Hangzhou.

During the competition held at Tonglu Equestrian Centre, Qabil, who was reunited with his favourite horse Rosenstolz, received 75.78 points and won his first Asian Games gold.

Qabil defeated defending champion Siu Jacqueline from Hong Kong, who managed 73.45 points for silver, while India’s Anush Agarwalla took bronze with 73.03 points.

He had won silver at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia and two bronze medals at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games and 2006 Doha Asian Games in Qatar for the same event.

The gold medal won by Qabil was the country’s second, after Nur Shazrin Mohamad Latif’s clinched top spot in the women’s ILCA 6 sailing event yesterday. – Bernama, September 28, 2023.
