DE facto Religious Affairs Minister Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said he will be meeting DAP lawmaker Howard Lee, who is under police investigation for allegedly misinterpreting the Quran.
Na’im, who is religious affairs minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, said he wanted to clarify Lee’s actions.
“I was shown the video and I did not see him actually interpret it.
“What he did was actually citing the meaning of the Quran verse in that context,” he was quoted as saying in the New Straits Times.
The minister was speaking to reporters after attending the National Maulidur Rasul celebration at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre today.
Yesterday, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigations Department director Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said police had recorded a statement from Lee to assist in investigations over allegations he had insulted Islam through his own interpretation of a Quranic verse.
Lee had his statement recorded at 3pm in Ipoh, Perak on Tuesday.
He had come under fire from the opposition over this matter.
He had also openly apologised over the controversy. – September 28, 2023.
