LANGKAWI PAS chief Zubir Ahmad was today chosen as Kedah assembly speaker at Wisma Darul Aman.

Kedah Menteri Besar and Jeneri assemblyman Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor nominated Zubir, 60, whose candidacy was seconded by Merbau Pulas assemblyman cum state Rural, Poverty Eradication and Human Development Committee chairman Siti Ashah Ghazali.

Kedah assembly secretary Mohamad Azlee Ahmad said as there was only one candidate, Zubir would be speaker, in line with regulation 4(5) of the Kedah Assembly Regulations.

After the swearing-in ceremony for all 36 Kedah assemblymen, Sungai Tiang representative Suraya Yaacob was named deputy speaker after being nominated by Sanusi and seconded by Kuala Ketil assemblyman Mansor Zakaria.

The Kedah assembly later adjourned sine die. – Bernama, September 25, 2023.
