BUKIT Payung assemblyman Mohd Nor Hamzah has been appointed speaker of the Terengganu assembly today.

Former Terengganu Human Development, Dakwah and Information Committee chairman Nor took his oath of office before state assembly secretary Zulkifly Isa at Wisma Darul Iman in Kuala Terengganu.

Nor, 51, who is also state PAS liaison body treasurer, became an assemblyman in 2008 and was an executive council member from May 2018 to June 2023.

Seberang Takir assemblyman Khazan Che Mat was appointed as deputy speaker.

Thirty-two representatives chosen after the August 12 state polls took their oaths of office before Zulkifly during the same ceremony today, which was led by Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

For the first time in the Terengganu assembly’s history, it has no opposition as Perikatan Nasional swept all 32 seats in the state elections. – Bernama, September 24, 2023.
