MUHYIDDIN Yassin has told Pelangai voters that Perikatan Nasional (PN) was their best choice.

In a statement, the PN chairman said the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN) pact did not deserve the Pelangai seat.

“PN has a good track record in taking care of the rakyat, unlike PH-BN, which is only good at making promises but fails to look after the people’s welfare.

“It has been 10 months, and the egg shortage has turned into a local rice shortage.

“It is difficult for the people to eat. This is different from PN’s policy, which prioritises the people by ensuring food is always on the table,” he said in a statement as campaigning for the Pelangai seat began.

Polling is on October 7, with early voting on October 3.

The by-election came after the death of former Umno assemblyman and Pahang executive council member Johari Harun in a plane crash near Bandar Elmina, Shah Alam, on August 17.

BN’s Amizar Abu Adam, PN’s Kasim Samat, and Independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasli are up for the seat.

This is Amizar’s second attempt at winning a state seat, having contested the Ketari seat in the general election last year.

Previously, Johari captured the seat after polling 7,308 votes. He beat Kasim, who gained 3,260 votes, while PH’s Ahmed Wafiuddin Shamsuri received 2,031 votes.

Pejuang candidate Isa Ahmad lost his deposit after receiving 65 votes.

Muhyiddin said the PH-BN government was overstepping its bounds by restricting the right to freedom of expression and ordering nonsensical prosecutions.

He claimed restrictions on freedom of speech were also becoming more common under the unity government.

“Talking about Malay rights was investigated by the police. Media that reported criticism of the government were threatened and their websites were blocked.

“Opposition MPs, who are now 100% Malay and Bumiputera, are often investigated by the police and face absurd prosecutions,” he alleged in the statement posted on Facebook.

He urged voters to choose the PN candidate.

“Taking into account political developments in the country, PN is the best option to defend Pelangai voters’ interests,” he said. – September 24, 2023.
