POLICE are tracking down an Indian national to assist in a rape investigation involving a Malaysian woman in Puchong.

Serdang acting district police chief Izuddin Ab Wahab said the alleged victim filed a police report last month.

“The case is being investigated under section 376 of the Penal Code which provides for a prison sentence of up to 30 years and a maximum of 10 lashes upon conviction,” he said in.a statement today.

“We have taken a statement from the victim and we are looking for other witnesses to assist in the case.

“We are also tracking down the main suspect in the case.

In the police report sighted by The Malaysian Insight, the alleged victim said she met the suspect, a monk, at Setia Walk in Puchong before inviting him to the birthday celebration of one of his followers.

She said the monk had put her hand on his private parts. Feeling unsafe, she said she excused herself to return to her car but was raped by the man.

It is also learnt that the monk had violated his visa by overstaying in Malaysia. – September 24, 2023.
