THE Domestic Trade and Cost Living Ministry has increased its enforcement personnel to ensure better monitoring and control in the second phase of Op Jamin, which focuses on the supply and price of rice in the market.
Acting minister Armizan Mohd Ali said the ministry had roped in 900 more enforcement officers, raising the total workforce involved in the exercise to 2,390.
He said the personnel had carried out inspection on 8,684 business premises since July 7.
“The Domestic Trade and Cost Living Ministry, with the cooperation of the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry through its padi and rice control division, is carrying out Op Jamin throughout the country, and we have decided to continue with phase two with improved applications,” he said.
“The focus of Op Jamin is to monitor the price of rice at all level and supply chains. By increasing the enforcement workforce, we will be able to check more premises, from the factories to wholesalers and retailers.”
Armizan was speaking to reporters after participating in Op Jamin in the Raub district to have a first-hand look at the supply and prices of rice, sugar and cooking oil. – Bernama, September 23, 2023.
