BENTONG Umno committee member Amizar Abu Adam is Barisan Nasional’s candidate for the Pelangai state by-election on October 7.

BN Pahang state chairman Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail announced Amizar’s candidacy for the by-election during a candidate announcement event at the Bentong District Council Hall tonight.

The Pelangai state constituency has 16,456 voters.

The by-election comes following the death of former Umno assemblyman and Pahang executive council member Johari Harun in the plane crash near Bandar Elmina in Shah Alam on August 17.

This is Amizar’s second attempt at winning a state seat having previously contested the Ketari state assembly seat in the last state assembly election last year.

The Election Commission has set the nomination day for this Saturday, while October 3 is early voting day.

In the state election, Johari captured the seat with a majority of 4,048 votes after polling 7,308 votes. He beat Perikatan Nasiona’s  Kasim Samat, who polled 3260 votes while the Pakatan Harapan candidate Ahmed Wafiuddin Shamsuri, received 2031 votes.

The Pejuang candidate Isa Ahmad lost his deposit after receiving 65 votes. – September 20, 2023.
