OAG, a data platform for the global travel industry, ranked Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) fourth among the most connected airports in its “Megahubs 2023” list.

OAG said in a statement the global top 20 megahubs included seven airports in Asia Pacific, among which the most connected was KLIA in fourth place and Japan’s Haneda Airport in fifth place.

AirAsia operates 34% of flights at KLIA.

OAG Head of Asia Pacific Mayur Patel said: “The resurgence of Asia Pacific airports reflects their key position as hubs for some of the world’s busiest routes, like the air corridor between Fukuoka and Tokyo Haneda, which has become the third busiest in the world.”

Among the Top 25 Low-Cost Megahubs, Asia Pacific dominates the rankings with 13 airports, in which Southeast Asia accounted for 53% of low-cost carrier operations.

KLIA ranked first in the region with 11,188 low-cost connections across more than 100 destinations. – Bernama, September 20, 2023.
