THE charred body of an elderly man with disabilities was found in a house following a fire in Jalan Kampung Pisang, Air Itam, near George Town, today.

A spokesman for the Penang Fire and Rescue Department said the deceased, whose identity had yet to be ascertained, was in his 60s.

“The fire department received a distress call on the fire at 3.44am and a team of firefighters from the Paya Terubong Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the team found two neighbouring village houses on fire. Efforts were made to douse the flames,” he said.

According to the spokesman, the body was found in a room in one of the houses. It has been sent to Penang Hospital for an autopsy.

The cause of the fire are under investigation. – Bernama, September 18, 2023.
