HUNDREDS of protesters participating in the “Save Malaysia” rally have successfully marched their way to Sogo shopping complex despite police rejecting their application to hold the rally.

Initially gathered outside the Kampung Baru mosque, the group of 500 made their way to the city centre.

They were seen carrying placards stating “Dakwa Zahid” (Prosecute Zahid).

Protesters were also seen shouting “takbir”,” Allahuakbar” and “Reformasi” to passing vehicles.

Some of the organisers stood on a lorry giving speeches.

The rally is to protest the attorney-general’s decision to withdraw all 47 corruption charges in the graft trial of Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Among those seen in the protest are Bersatu’s Badrul Hisham Shaharin and former Putrajaya Umno deputy chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz.

Police yesterday rejected an application for the rally.

Meanwhile, there is a strong police presence near the Sogo shopping complex and the Dang Wangi police headquarters. – September 16, 2023.
