POLICE have released Bersatu’s Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, who was arrested last night.
Perikatan Nasional youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari confirmed the matter in a Facebook post earlier today.
“Alhamdulillah, Cikgu Bard (Chegubard) was released early this morning at 2.15am after giving a statement,” the Pasir Mas lawmaker said.
“Keep going. Save Malaysia,” he added.
Last night, police confirmed arresting Badrul, a member of the “Save Malaysia” rally secretariat.
He is one of the organisers of a gathering to protest the controversial decision by the prosecution to withdraw all 47 corruption charges in the graft trial of Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The gathering was slated to be held in Kuala Lumpur on September 16.
Meanwhile, police said his arrest was not linked to the rally.
Police in a statement said the case was based on a video posted on TikTok, which allegedly shows a man nicknamed Che GuBard issuing a statement on the Malaysia-Indonesian border conflict negotiations.
He is alleged to have said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had surrendered the Ambalat block in the Sulawesi Sea to Indonesia.
The Ambalat block, a 15,000 sq km area in the midst of the territorial dispute off the coast of Sabah, holds the world’s largest crude oil reserves, which Malaysia has defended for a long time.
Police said Badrul is being investigated under section 500 of the penal code and section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.
Police also confirmed that a total of five investigation papers have been opened against Badrul since June. – September 15, 2023.
