MUDA’S sole MP, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, will sit in the opposition bench effective immediately to protest the public prosecutor’s decision last week to drop the 47 charges against Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Muar lawmaker confirmed that Muda will now become the third force in the opposition.

“This (dropping graft charges) is the beginning of normalising corruption.

“We cannot and will not tolerate this unprincipled move.

“Let me be punished instead of me losing my principles and committing a great sin,” Syed Saddiq said in a statement today, adding that his youth-based party would remain principled.

Syed Saddiq confirmed that he had sent a letter to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul asking not to be seated with the backbenchers on Monday when parliament convenes for a special meeting to review the 12th Malaysia plan.

Syed Saddiq said he would answer all questions regarding the move in a live session tonight at 8.30pm.

This means the government bloc will lose its two-thirds majority in parliament.

The unity government secured a two-thirds majority yesterday following Suhaizan Kaiat’s win in Pulai.

It was the first parliamentary election victory for the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN) alliance.

PH retained the seat it won in the general election after Suhaizan scored 48,283 votes in a three-cornered contest.

Earlier today, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke reminded Syed Saddiq that he had won the Muar seat with the help of PH in the last general election.

“I have to remind Syed Saddiq he won on an understanding with PH.

“He did not win Muar on his own merit. He won because there was an electoral understanding with PH,” the transport minister told reporters today. – September 10, 2023.

  • Of course you would rather bring back the PN rather than compromise a little for the continuance of the Unity govt. Its difficult for all parties in the Unity govt to adjust and accept the new situation. Everyone has to compromise in order that PN does not come into power and then all the criminals escape justice. of course thats your role, as a trojan horse: showing it in Larkin and then the 6 state elections. You are a gonner Mr SS. Your last term as MP unless you join PN and betray everyone and every principle you are expousing.

  • Have to talk to your constituent who voted for you? If not then the Third Force is the most abused word in Malaysian politics! You might as well join PN or PAS directly.
