THE counting of votes for the Pulai parliamentary seat and Simpang Jeram state seat has started.
The 61 polling centres for the Johor by-elections closed at 6pm today.
The Election Commission has pegged voter turnout at 42% for the Pulai parliamentary by-election as of 4pm.
Voter turnout for the Simpang Jeram state by-election was at 56%.
The official results are expected after 9pm but unofficial results may be known earlier.
The latest data shows that 165,509 are registered to vote in Pulai and 40,301 in Simpang Jeram.
These voters will be electing new representatives to replace Salahuddin Ayub, who died on July 23.
On Tuesday, 831 members of the police force voted early in the Pulai by-election. The turnout was at 90%.
There was no early voting for the Simpang Jeram by-election.
In Pulai, Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Suhaizan Kaiat is facing Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Zulkifli Jaafar and Independent Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi.
In Simpang Jeram, PH’s Nazri Abdul Rahman takes on Dr Mohd Mazri Yahya (PN) and Independent S. Jeganathan. – September 9, 2023.
