POLICE have opened two investigation papers on Muhyiddin Yassin over his statement allegedly containing 3R (religion, royalty and race) elements when campaigning in the Pulai and Simpang Jeram by-elections.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the police would call up the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman on September 12 to record his statement.
“Two IP (investigation papers) have been opened on Muhyiddin following his statements (regarding) fatwa and the Malays losing power. We will call him up on September 12 to record his statement,” he told reporters after inspecting the voting process for the Pulai by-election at Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar polling centre in Johor Baru today.
Ayob said so far, no new investigation papers have been opened on political leaders regarding the 3R issue.
On September 2, Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president, allegedly said it was “haram” to vote for Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Suhaizan Kaiat, in his talk at Dataran Utama Kempas in Johor Baru in the run-up to the Pulai by-election.
The Pagoh MP is also reported to have issued a statement claiming that the Malays lost power, adding that the government did not seem to understand the problems faced by the Malays.
On September 4, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the police opened investigation papers on Muhyiddin for allegedly issuing a statement that caused public fear and anxiety.
Ayob, when asked to comment on the investigation into PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, said the police had submitted the investigation papers to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.
He also reminded political leaders and the community against issuing any statements related to the 3R. – Bernama, September 9, 2023.
