DAP, once critical of Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, has now become the latter’s “lapdog”, Muar lawmaker Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
The Muda president also labelled DAP, a component party of the ruling Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, as “hypocrite”, “power crazy” and “having no principles”.
Syed Saddiq’s remark came after DAP vice-president Nga Kor Ming suggested that the former should be more professional by refraining from airing his discontent over Zahid’s discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) in his corruption trial publicly.
“I agree with (former health minister) Khairy Jamaluddin. DAP has become Zahid’s lapdog.
“Hypocritical. Power-crazy. Unprincipled,” the former youth and sports minister posted on X.
Sharing several screenshots of Nga’s posting on X platform, Syed Saddiq said the local government development minister used to accuse Zahid of corruption.
“Previously, he called the then prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob as Zahid’s puppet.
“Now he has become the puppet who sanctifies corrupt people because of the position of minister,” said Syed Saddiq.
On Monday, High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah granted Zahid a DNAA in his corruption trial.
Sequerah made the ruling after listening to the prosecution’s submission.
He said the decision was made to allow further investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, but added the case was still open.
Syed Saddiq had previously threatened to withdraw support from the unity government, following the DNAA granted to Zahid in the Yayasan Akalbudi corruption case.
Muda also said it would initiate a nationwide campaign to pressure the Attorney-General’s Chambers to prosecute Zahid again for corruption.
Nga, meanwhile, said DAP would never withdraw its support for the unity government despite the brouhaha surrounding the DNAA.
Anwar Ibrahim’s administration had come to power last November with 148 MPs, including Syed Saddiq, backing the former to lead the nation.
This gave Anwar a two-thirds majority in parliament.
Currently, the government has 147 MPs after the Pulai seat fell vacant following the death of Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub. – September 7, 2023.
