PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said secularism is against Allah’s teachings and labelled DAP as being extremist after its secretary-general Anthony Loke defended the party’s secular-nation agenda as well as its “Malaysian Malaysia” slogan.
“Indeed, Allah SWT has mandated that human affairs, including political affairs, cannot be separated from Islam because it is part of the reason for human creation,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Hadi was referring to Loke’s statement last week, where the transport minister said DAP does not need to abandon its secular nation agenda and ‘Malaysian Malaysia’ slogan because an understanding on this matter had been agreed upon among political parties in the ruling coalition prior to the formation of the unity government.
Loke said before the unity government was formed, parties aligned with the federal administration had entered into an agreement not to interfere with the principles or constitutions of the respective parties.
Following the Seremban MP’s remarks, Hadi called upon Malay parties and voters backing Pakatan Harapan (PH) to reflect on their decision to support the coalition.
“The extreme statement made openly by the DAP secretary-general who asserted his stance to defend secularism and ‘Malaysian Malaysia’ needs to be reflected upon by the Muslim-Malay parties who gave him wala’ (loyalty),” he said.
Hadi also said the willingness of Malay parties to work with DAP is purely to back Anwar Ibrahim to become prime minister.
“The wala’ relationship between Malay-Muslim parties with DAP, to the point of giving full support to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, is reminiscent of the appointment of Yusof Ishak as the first Singapore president back in 1965,” he said. – September 7, 2023.
