ARMY chief Mohammad Ab Rahman has been named defence force chief effective today.
Mohammad, 59, takes over from Affendi Buang, who will go on mandatory retirement.
The handover of duties was graced by Defence Minister Mohamad Hasan at Wisma Pertahanan.
Born in Machang, Kelantan, on March 15, 1964, Mohammad was made army chief on March 22 this year.
He went to SM Sains Kelantan before continuing his studies at Royal Military College in 1980.
Mohammad pursued his undergraduate studies in computer science at the University of North Carolina, United States.
He was commissioned as a young officer in the Royal Malay Regiment on July 1, 1987.
Mohammad is a graduate of Armed Forces Defence College in Kuala Lumpur and holds master’s degrees in defence studies from the University of Canberra, Australia, and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
