THE Youth and Sports Ministry via the Institute of Leadership Excellence and Development will offer family camps at seven Wawasan Negara campsites in line with its agenda to popularise sports.
Minister Hannah Yeoh said the Wawasan Negara camp in Ulu Sepri, Negri Sembilan had been selected as the pioneer programme starting from September 1.
The programme would be extended in October to other Wawasan Negara campsites – Langkawi in Kedah, Balik Pulau in Penang, Ulu Kenas in Perak, Maran in Pahang, Kundasang in Sabah, and Besut in Terengganu.
“The implementation of the pioneer programme is aimed at opening the ministry’s facilities to the public for recreation.
“The initiative could also nurture family ties and responsibility among the people for a balanced lifestyle,” she told a media conference today.
She said her ministry was collaborating with the state secretariat and health office and Fire and Rescue Department.
“Camping participants are required to adhere and comply with the stipulated regulations such as the bans on smoking, vaping, alcohol, and drugs,” she said.
Families would pay a minimum entry rate of between RM10-RM20.
Camping enthusiast Rosaliza Mohd Idrus, 36, said she usually paid up to RM80 for family accommodation at other camping sites.
“This family camping offer is far more affordable and safer for me with small children,” she said.
For Rahayu Mohd Razali ,41, the family camp could foster family ties and love for the environment among children.
She said the entry fee was really affordable and camping could divert children from playing with gadgets. – Bernama, September 3, 2023.
