THE proposal for Sarawak to use its own currency is only Work Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi’s personal opinion, Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg said.

He said Sarawak will continue to use the ringgit, as the issue is complicated and requires comprehensive study.

“It’s a very complicated issue, and it was just Nanta’s (personal) view. We already have the Malaysian currency, so we will continue using it,” he told reporters after the opening ceremony of the state-level 2023 National Anti-Scam Roadshow in Kuching today.

He was commenting on Nanta’s statement yesterday, which hinted at the possibility of Sarawak introducing its own currency, given the uncertain economic situation in Malaysia.
