AHMAD Terrirudin Mohd Salleh has been appointed attorney-general effective September 6, Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Zuki Ali said today.
He will succeed Idrus Harun, whose contract of service ends on September 5.
Zuki said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had consented to the appointment of Terrirudin as the new attorney-general as per article 145(1) of the Federal Constitution.
Terrirudin, 55, is currently the solicitor-general. He was appointed to the post in March last year.
Previously, he had been a special officer to the chief justice, a state legal adviser and numerous postings as a registrar, industrial court chairman, magistrate and a Sessions Court judge.
Earlier today, The Malaysian Insight reported that Terrirudin will be taking over the Attorney-General’s Chambers as the institution faces calls for reforms.
He will be in charge if a proposal to separate the attorney-general’s duties is passed by the Anwar Ibrahim administration.
The government is looking to separate the attorney-general’s roles as chief legal adviser and head prosecutor. – September 1, 2023.
