P-hailing rider goes to jail for one day over bomb hoax

A P-HAILING rider was sentenced to one day in prison and fined RM4,000 in default five months in jail by the Ipoh magistrate’s court today for making a fake bomb threat.

Magistrate S. Punitha sentenced Mohammad Nasriq Samsudin, 38, after the man pleaded guilty to the charge.

Nasriq said the hoax was meant as a joke, and he didn’t realise it was an offence.

He was charged with making a phone call to Ahmad Farid Asorudin, 38, to say there was a bomb about to explode at Aeon Mall Klebang, Chemor.

The offence was committed on the 1st floor, Aeon Mall Klebang management office, at approximately 4.15pm, on August 23.

The charge, framed under section 507 of the penal code for criminal intimidation by anonymous communication, provides imprisonment for up to two years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The accused was represented by National Legal Aid Foundation member Siti Hajar Hamzah. – Bernama, August 30, 2023.
