Malaysia records RM216.4 billion in total trade for July

MALAYSIA’S total trade for last month amounted to RM216.4 billion against RM222.1 billion in June, with exports and imports standing at RM116.8 billion and RM99.7 billion, respectively.

The Statistics Department said Penang remained the top exporter with RM39.6 billion, or a 33.9% share of the country’s total exports (June 2023: 33.2%).

It was followed by Johor at 19.6%, Selangor at 17.8%, Sarawak at 7.0%, and Kedah at 4.4%, chief statistician Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said in a statement on the latest export and import statistics by state today.

“Exports were valued at RM116.8 billion in July, a decrease of RM17.6 billion (13.1%) from the same month of the previous year,” it said.

On imports, Uzir said Selangor continued to dominate with imports of RM27.7 billion, or a share of 27.8% of total imports (June 2023: 25.8%).

It was followed by Johor at 22.9%, Penang at 19.6%, Kuala Lumpur at 7.2%, and Sarawak at 5.0%.
