MALAYSIA and Iran pledged their commitment to continue existing bilateral ties, including in the fields of economy, education, food security, science and technology, as well as to explore new potential areas for cooperation.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he spoke on the phone with Iran President Ebrahim Raisi yesterday, after Foreign Minister Dr Zambry Abd Kadir had paid a courtesy call on the president.
“We also agreed for two joint committees to be set up – Joint Commission Meeting and Joint Economic Commission – that would immediately convene a meeting to explore all possibilities of cooperation between both countries for the benefit of all,” said Anwar through his Facebook post today.
Meanwhile, in a statement, Zambry, who is on a four-day official visit to Iran that ended today, said during his visit, he called on President Raisi, who welcomed the move to improve bilateral relations between both countries.
Zambry said his visit to Iran was aimed at expanding the access on export of commodities and products from Malaysia to countries that come under the Commonwealth of Independent States. – Bernama, August 23, 2023.
