THE cockpit voice recorder (CVR) of the Beechcraft Model 390 (Premier 1) aircraft that crashed at Bandar Elmina last Thursday will be sent to its manufacturer in Florida, United States after investigators in Singapore failed to extract data from the instrument.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said Singapore’ Technical Transport Safety Bureau failed to retrieve data from the CVR due to technical difficulties.

“The chief of the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will return (from Singapore) today. We will prepare for the AAIB team to fly to Florida either today or tomorrow,” he told a media conference today.

Loke said even although the Malaysian team and its Singapore counterpart have held a teleconference with the CVR manufacturer in Florida, the technical problems could not be overcome.

“So the best option would be to send the CVR to its manufacturer in Florida,” he said.

The Beechcraft 390 Premier 1 aircraft flying from Langkawi to Subang crashed onto the Guthrie Highway at about 2.50pm last Thursday, killing all eight people onboard, as well as two road users. – August 22, 2023.
