THE Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living is enhancing the Price Catcher mobile app to attract a larger user base.
Acting Minister Armizan Mohd Ali said that engagement sessions involving stakeholders, customers, consumer associations, and industry players will be implemented for the purpose.
He said the focus will be on promoting and improving the app’s information and interactivity, among other things, since it has been downloaded by 293,499 users up to now.
“So far, the app has been downloaded by 293,499 individuals, a small number compared to our nation’s population. The daily visitor count is merely 2,000 people yet the information within the app proves to be very useful.
“Our main goal is to make it more user-friendly,” he said during a press conference after launching the Cost of Living Outreach programme, in Johor Baru, today. This initiative is part of the 2023 state-level Form Six and Vocational College Diploma Cashless Assistance pilot project.
Armizan said that the app includes a comprehensive list of 480 items, allowing users to access price comparison details for specific products within a 10km radius (peninsula) and 20km (Sabah and Sarawak).
Since its introduction in 2019, the app has undergone two enhancement processes, he added.
“Currently, the app is doing well, but its success depends on digital technology awareness and user preference for price comparison.
“For price comparison, we want to promote digital apps, which are more effective and provide instant info for users,” he said.
