TWO Kelantan assemblymen have given Menteri Besar (MB) Mohd Nassuruddin Daud seven days to make a public apology for alleging they have rejected the Islamic struggle.

Kota Lama assemblyman Dr Hafidzah Mustakim from Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Galas assemblyman Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim from Barisan Nasional (BN) said they will sue the MB if he doesn’t apologise.

Syahbuddin said Nassuruddin’s comment is akin to accusing another Muslim of apostasy, and that it could split society.

“We are offended by the MB’s statement, which I consider extreme, and this represents (the feelings of) 10,742 Galas people who voted for BN and 9,691 Kota Lama people who voted for PH,” he said at a joint press conference with Hafidzah in Kota Bharu today.

Nassuruddin allegedly said the 43 of 45 won by PAS in the Kelantan polls was a victory for the Islamic struggle, while the remaining two went to parties “opposing the Islamic struggle”.

Hafidzah said Nassuruddin should not have made the statement as he had earlier said earlier he wants to cooperate with the federal government.

“This is against the spirit of federalism, in total disregard of … democracy. While we are discharging our responsibility as a check and balance in the state assembly, the top leadership looks at us askance,” she said.

The duo said they have directed their lawyers to send a notice to demand an apology from Nassuruddin. – Bernama, August 20, 2023.
