COMMUNICATIONS and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil has urged architects to ensure their building designs provide for the proper equipment of internet infrastructure.
He said this is in line with the 5G rollout.
“I believe a lot of newer buildings, God willing, will be much better equipped. We now have 5G, so a lot of these structures will have to be fitted for us to take full advantage of the fastest internet (connectivity) we have.
“This is important because as the minister in charge of internet (access), I have been frequently blamed when some buildings don’t have internet (facilities). But it is something to consider,” he said when closing Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia (PAM) Merdeka Weekend in Kuala Lumpur today.
Also present were PAM president Abu Zarim Abu Bakar and PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Tengku Ab Aziz Tengku Mahmud.
Fahmi said PAM and other industry players must build structures with their own histories, such as the Angkasapuri and Parliament buildings.
“There should be an architectural language adapted for people’s housing projects (PPR) in the future. If you notice, Malay homes usually have the kitchen at the back of the house, but for most PPR in Kuala Lumpur, it is located in the front section.
“I would like to have more dialogue sessions with PAM and budding architects about what houses for the people should look like. I know this is not my field but I am very passionate about this because there are a lot of PPRs in my constituency,” said Fahmi, who is Lembah Pantai MP. – Bernama, August 20, 2023.
