LABUAN, Aug 20 (Bernama)—THE Magistrate’s Court in Labuan has granted a five-day remand order for two policemen to facilitate an investigation into allegations of corruption.
Magistrate Kasyfurrahman Abang Ahmad issued the order.
The duo, both aged 42, are attached to the Labuan police district narcotics division. They were apprehended by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) around 3pm yesterday at the agency’s Labuan office, where they were having their statements recorded.
They are suspected of soliciting and receiving bribes totalling RM3,950 as inducement to not take action against a person in connection with a previous drug-related offence.
The transactions took place between September 2022 and March.
The case is filed under section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009, which provides for a penalty of at least 10 times the value of the bribe, up to 20 years in jail, or both, for the convicted party. – Bernama, August 20, 2023.
