Don’t politicise National Day celebration, says DPM

Perikatan Nasional has launched a separate theme for the celebration of Merdeka in the four states in governs. – August 20, 2023.

THE national day celebration should not be politicised, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

He described Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) plan to use different National Day logos and themes in the four states under its administration as “crazy”.

He said PN youth leader Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, who mooted the idea, is “narrow-minded” and should not be an elected representative.

“Is he crazy or what? He doesn’t deserve to be an MP if he has such a narrow-minded attitude,” Zahid said in Putrajaya today.

“This is about celebrating National Day at the national level… not everything can be politicised.

Fadhli was yesterday reported to have said that Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu would use celebrate Merdeka under a separate logo and theme, which the PN youth division launched yesterday. The them was “Teguh Muafakat Malaysia Sejahtera” (Strong Consensus for a Prosperous Malaysia).

He said logo of a hibiscus with five petals, which is the national flower, was in the colours of the Jalur Gemilang.

In an immediate reaction, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the Merdeka celebration is a national event.

He said separate themes would create an atmosphere of disunity.

“I urge for this matter to be looked into as we want to unite, put all this aside, as the time for politics is over with the completion of the state elections,” Fahmi said in Putrajaya today. – August 20, 2023.
