MALAYSIAN Anti-Corruption Commission chief Azam Baki today told Muhammad Adlan Berhan and lawyer Mansoor Saat to just return to Malaysia and stop giving excuses.

He said they should go to MACC and be interviewed as part of its investigation.

“Don’t give excuses. Just come back and face our investigation.

“They gave so many excuses. I don’t want to hear them,” he said in Kuala Lumpur.

Adlan, who is Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin’s son-in-law, and Mansoor are sought by MACC to assist in its investigations into the misappropriation of millions of ringgit related to the registration, recruitment and biometric storage of data of foreign workers for a ministry.

The anti-graft agency had earlier this month said both were wanted to assist in investigations, but they failed to appear at MACC’s office.

Both are currently outside the country.

Last week, Adlan refuted claims he was not cooperating with MACC. He said he was never arrested or called by MACC for a meeting.

He also claimed he had left the country legally.

Earlier today, Mansoor said he would not return to the country if he was continued to be persecuted by MACC as part of a political plot.

He said he was perplexed as to why MACC was seeking police assistance to locate him.

“This is in bad taste and is totally unnecessary,” he said in a statement.

“It serves to reinforce my belief that there is an ongoing effort at smearing and assassinating characters and reputations, including mine.

“I will return to Malaysia to face prosecution if any, but I will not do so as long as I am being persecuted.”

Mansoor said he in consultation with his lawyers on the MACC statement as well as his next course of action, including suing the agency for abuse of power and misfeasance in public office. – August 17, 2023.
